Natco Foods is one part of a large and successful network of companies, The  Choithram Group.

In 1944 Mr Thakurdas Choithram Pagarani opened his first small grocery store in Freetown, Sierra Leone, with his wife Virginia Harding. Within a decade, that first small shop had grown to become an extensive chain serving the local consumer market. The name “Natco” derives from “National Confectionary Company”, a legacy of the early days specialising in the manufacture of sweets and biscuits for the people of Sierra Leone and neighbouring West African countries.

In the early 1960s, T Choithram and Sons opened operations in the UK, initially to supply authentic Indian foods to the growing UK Asian population. Since then the company has expanded considerably and changed its name to Natco Foods. Today more than 500 products are manufactured and packed by Natco Foods in the UK and sold under the Natco label.

From small beginnings in Sierra Leone, The Choithram Group has developed into an international company spanning Europe, North America and Africa as well as the Gulf and the Far East, and remains a private business. The business funds and manages a group of hospitals, schools and humanitarian initiatives in India and West Africa.
