YOUR JOB IS TO EFFECTIVELY MANAGE BUYING ACTIVITIES FOR THE PORTFOLIO OF PRODUCTS YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR; IN THE MOST COST EFFECTIVE AND PROFITABLE MANNER, ENSURING REGULAR UN-INTERRUPTED AVAILABILITY OF BULK AND PRE-PACKED PRODUCTS; MINIMISING OVERSTOCK SITUATIONS AND WRITE-OFFS; THUS ENABLING THE COMPANY TO MEET SALES, COST & PROFIT TARGETS

DUTIES :
• TO ENSURE THE AVAILABILITY OF THE RIGHT PRODUCT, AT THE RIGHT PRICE, OF THE RIGHT QUALITY, IN THE RIGHT QUANTITY AT THE RIGHT TIME, CONSISTENTLY.
• ENSURE PRODUCTS SPECIFICATIONS ARE COMPLETE, CURRENT & COMMUNICATED TO SUPPLIERS
• DEMAND PLANNING & FORECASTING
• NEGOTIATING THE MOST COMPETITIVE PRICES FROM SUPPLIERS AT THE BEST POSSIBLE TERMS
• NEGOTIATING THE MOST COMPETITIVE SHIPPING TERMS & RATES CONTINUALLY
• TO ENSURE NO SALE/S OPPORTUNITIES ARE LOST DUE TO NON-AVAILABILITY OR NON-COMPETITIVE COST OF PURCHASE.
• MAINTAINING EXCELLENT SUPPLIER RELATIONS AND DEVELOPING ALTERNATIVE SUPPLIERS.
• NEW PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT & NEW SUPPLIER DEVELOPMENT ACTIVITY CONTINUOUSLY

SALARY :

Job Description
Position: Buyer
Reports to: Head of Buying


Overall purpose of Job:
To effectively manage buying activity for the portfolio of products you are responsible for; in the most cost effective and profitable manner, ensuring regular un-interrupted availability, ff bulk and pre-packs; minimizing overstock situations and write-offs; thus enabling the company to meet SALES, COST & PROFIT TARGETS and being a good ambassador of the company.

Responsibilities:
To ensure the Right Product, at the Right Price, of the Right Quality, in the Right Quantity is available at the Right Time, CONSISTENTLY.
Ensure Products Specifications are COMPLETE, CURRENT & COMMUNICATED to suppliers
For negotiating the most competitive prices from suppliers at the best possible terms
For negotiating the most competitive Shipping Terms & Rates continually
To ensure no sale/s opportunities are lost due to non-availability or non-competitive costings
For maintaining excellent supplier relations and developing alternative suppliers.
For New Product Development & New Supplier Development Activity continuously
Developing & Expanding the Pack at Source base to add greater value to the business
Advising the management on continuous improvement measures to add value to the business

Tasks
To ensure all in-house systems and procedures are fully complied with on a day to day basis and look for continuous improvement
Ensure Supplier contracts/POs are raised in a timely manner
Pro-actively Follow up, Schedule & Coordinate deliveries with suppliers
Ensure timely receipt of shipping documents and no demurrage cost incurred
Take up case-by-case quality related issues with suppliers and ensure re-work costs and/or lost opportunity/margins are charged to supplier and following through for payment
Ensure optimum stock levels of bulk and pre-packs are maintained at all times
Review all potential/possible exposure to write-offs and proactively keep this at near zero levels
To be actively involved in Pricing decisions ensuring opportunity for sales or margins are not lost.
Set measurement criteria for suppliers, measuring their performance.
Continuously explore and implement cost saving measures
Minimise spot purchases that have a negative impact on profitability.
Day to day supplier correspondence to be promptly dealt with and followed up.
Coordinate with Production proactively to ensure no out of stock situations arise
Have constant dialogue with the sales team to have a grip on the pulse of the market
Any other duties:

Performance Standards.
Growth in Gross Margins & Sales
Stock Turnover period by category
Number of days out of stock of any given item
Stock Write-offs and/or discounts offered to clear excess stock
Value of Spot Purchases
Qualifications
a) Essential A Degree or Equivalent
b) Desirable Qualification or Membership from Chartered Institute of Purchase & Supply

Work Experience A minimum 3 years experience in the Food Sector in a similar capacity
